Inspirations for designing and decorating an entrance
Decorate a grand entrance
Some entrances, especially large ones, can become a totally different room. By taking care to reserve part of the room for its entrance role, by separating the space with storage (essential in an entrance), the rest of the space can have another vocation. You can place there, for example, the kitchen, which would thus take a central place in the apartment. When it is impossible to create an additional room, it is necessary to dress it. This requires the installation of storage, but also that of decorative elements. A console will allow you to deposit the keys on arrival and a mirror to take a look at your outfit on leaving. To help make a large entrance more welcoming, do not hesitate to bring the walls to a darker color or graphic wallpaper. In addition to giving it a warm side, you will mark the place with a choice of character.
Most of the entrances are reduced to their simple role of place of circulation and offer hardly any space. However, it is essential to tell you that you will need a place to put your keys and your mail on arrival, before taking off your coat, which you will also have to put away. So plan for pegs very aesthetic, if you don’t have the space to arrange an extra closet (be careful not to pile up the clothes on the hooks, as this gives the impression of disorder) and a Tablet with captive cleats if you cannot place a console. Finally, don’t forget a mirror. It can have a large dimension: this will bring depth if the space is cramped.
Properly decorate an entrance open to the living room
In some cases, the entrance opens directly into the living room. However, it is necessary to mark an “entrance” space and, if possible, to make it more intimate. Indeed, an entrance is a kind of “airlock” between two worlds: you and the others. For separate spaces without partitioning, there are several solutions: an open shelf/bookcase without a bottom, a screen, a curtain (whose fabric is aesthetic on both sides), a removable partition (screen, plant, bookcase). Sometimes a wall return, even a small one, can visually mark two spaces, as can a change in floor covering, a carpet or a false ceiling.
In a corridor entrance, it is necessary to privilege the animation to remove the austere side. THE wallpapers are useful: their graphics will dress the walls. You can mirrors in a headband, lengthwise, at eye level, to visually expand the width of the hallway. If, in addition, the ceiling is very high, lower it with a false ceiling or with a stronger color. The animation can also be on the floor or on the ceiling: a floor covered with painted cement tiles or very decorative suspensions can give a lot of style to an entrance. If space allows, place narrow storage (20 cm deep) to deposit the keys, place a few pegs and store shoes.
If a series of steps lead to your entrance, it is better to focus on safety by avoiding creating additional obstacles. So choose thin and discreet storage elements. Take advantage of the originality of the floor to accentuate its effect with a floor or stair lightingit’s very aesthetic (and functional!).

Properly decorate an entrance with glass roof
If glass walls surround your entrance, voluntarily hide a part to place a console or a beautiful wardrobe. To do this, use the fabrics: curtain, Japanese panel or Roman blind. Be sure to pay attention to the rhythm given by the structure of the canopy so as not to “break” the harmony. The choice of a more or less thick fabric will preserve the advantage of light.
Case of a multiple-door entrance
To simplify an entrance serving multiple rooms, each with its own set of doors, keep the essential doors and remove the others. For to further lighten the space, it is interesting to consider sliding doors, ideally with brick partition (the door “disappears” into the partition). This requires a little work, because part of the wall has to be removed to place the frame which will then accommodate the door, but the result obtained is very satisfactory. Otherwise, a sliding door applied along the wall also saves space. The main thing is that all the doors in this space are identical, even if the system is different, so as not to create visual confusion.
Arrange a round entrance
A round entrance is masterful and it’s a real playground for those who are sensitive to decoration. There, you have to put the functional aside and magnify the curves! Choose a deep shade to highlight the curves. The lighting will be very important: opt for a chandelier with an imposing graphic design which, once lit, will cast its shadows on the walls and thus animate them. Any storage element in this type of space will be made to measure by a carpenter.

In this case, it is necessary work on the lighting of the entrance, with a generous light intensity via a suspensionbut why not also wall lights or recessed spotlights.
Choose a light or bright wall color (if the entrance is “sad”) and do not overload the space. Choose furniture with materials that reflect light, such as lacquered finishes, for example. Then, a large mirror will reflect the light and thus help to brighten the space.
